NBS Timeliness
Project Overview: In our previous funding cycle, the Newborn Screening Workgroup shared expertise and resources between laboratory, follow-up, and clinical aspects of newborn screening. The workgroup’s aim was to assure both quality in screening and follow-up for affected newborns. In September 2013, the Discretionary Advisory Committee for Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (DACHDNC) was tasked with investigating newborn screening timeliness. Leaders in newborn screening across our states successfully addressed issues in timeliness, by developing better integrated NBS systems, and strengthening connections between hospitals and state laboratories. In the attached presentations below, four of the states in our region (Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Utah) describe their successes.
